Closer look: Fauna & Flora International working to conserve carnivores in Georgia

The Georgian Carnivore Conservation Project is primarily funded by the EU and is implemented by Fauna & Flora International (FFI) in partnership with a national NGO, NACRES.

The main focus of the project is the conservation of the unique and globally important biodiversity of the semi-arid landscape in the south-east of the country.

The Vashlovani Protected Area complex

Located in the south-eastern part of Georgia, this is the project’s key site and covers a total of 35,054 hectares, the bulk of which is made up of a Nature Reserve and a National Park.

This semi-arid area is home to a stunning array of carnivores, including grey wolf, jackal, fox, lynx, jungle cat and bear as well as sporadic sightings of leopard and striped hyena. Vashlovani also provides a home for all four of Georgia’s vultures (griffon, black, Egyptian and bearded) as well as many other birds of prey including four species of eagle, two buzzards and three harriers.

Sheep farming is the key local livelihood here and traditional pastoral activities have shaped the landscape. Unfortunately, the recent concentration of livestock over-wintering in the area is now putting the entire system at risk through overgrazing, habitat degradation and wildlife persecution fuelled by human-wildlife conflict.

The Tusheti Protected Area complex

This area is the project’s second site, and the mountain home of many of the livestock owners and shepherds that spend the winter months in Vashlovani.

This 118,319 hectare alpine area is located in the north east of the country. The majority of the sub-alpine and alpine meadows of the Tusheti Nature Reserve and National Park are used for grazing during the summer months, with evidence of heavy degradation and erosion from livestock.

Tushetian shepherds

The Tush community has a unique culture with prevailing traditional attitudes and customs closely linked to sheep farming.

Since settling in the region in the 17th century, these communities have been migrating annually with their flocks between the alpine summer pastures in Tusheti and their winter pastures throughout the region, including Vashlovani.

By working closely with local stakeholders and beneficiaries, combining their expertise with that of international specialists, the Georgian Carnivore Conservation Project is committed to:

• Increasing and improving the conservation of important ecosystems and species through supporting selected protected areas
• Reducing human-wildlife conflict through partnership with the farmers and livestock owners most affected
• Enhancing sustainable rural livelihoods to support and enhance conservation
• Improving attitudes and perceptions of regional and national target groups towards biodiversity, carnivores and conservation
• Positively influencing national policy and local practices through lessons learned from the project

Jika kita lihat, dari tahun ke tahun games yang mendapatkan peringkat terbaik dan laris dipasran seringnya adalah game yang brandnya sudah kuat. Kita contohkan saja PES Pro Evolution Soccer, FIFA, Call of Duty, BattleField, GTA. 1. PES 2014 atau Pro Evolution Soccer 2014

Pro Evolution Soccer atua biasa disingkat PES baru-baru ini telah menyiarkan kabar bahwa sebentar lagi, kita-kira bulan september 2013, mereka akan merelease PES 2014. Kita semua tahu bahwa PES adalah salah satu dari game sepak bola terbaik saat ini. PES bersaing dengan FIFA dari segi game sepakbola. Tapi kelihatannya di Indonesia, PES  merupakan raja game bola. Jarang sekali kita lihat player yang memainkan game FIFA. Nah jika anda ingin menikmati pengalaman seperti bermain bola sungguhan dari layar TV dengan kualitas grafis yang jauh lebih baik ketimbang PES 2013, maka cobalah game Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 ini. Dijamin anda tidak akan menyesal untuk bermain game tersebut.

2. FIFA 2014 atau FIFA 14

Tak mau kalah dari PES 2014, FIFA juga merilis game terbaru mereka, yakniknya FIFA 2014. Game FIFA lebih banyak menguasai pasar eropa ketimbang asia. Fitur utama dari FIFA dan sampai saat ini masih dapat mengalahkan PES adalah dari segi kualitas grafiknya. Penonton sepakbola lebih terasa nyata ketimbang seri PES. Inilah yang menyebabkan FIFA sebenarnya lebih realistis ketimbang PES. Tetapi tentu saja kesukaan orang berbeda-beda. Ada yang lebih memilih banyak penggemar ketimbang grafik dan sebalikya. Kabarnya release FIFA 2014 akan berbarengan dengan relese PES 2014. Jadi kita tunggu saja.

3. Call Of Duty Ghost

Seri terbaru dari Call of Duty setelah perelesan game Call of Duty Black Ops 2. Diwebsite reseminya, Call of Duty Ghost telah dibuka preorder, artinya anda bisa memesan game tersebut mulai dari sekarang dan tentunya anda akan mendapatkan bonus spesial yang tidak akan didapatkan pada penjualan resmi nantinya. 4. Battlefield 4

Sama dengan Call of Duty, Battlefield merupakan game FPS dengan kualitas grafis yang luar biasa tinggi. Dikabarkan dengan engine baru pada Battlefield 4, maka kualitas grafis yang ditampilkan juga akan lebih baik ketimbang seri Battlefield 3. Antar Call of Duty dan Battlefield 4 menurut ajid game yang membedakan keduanya adalah dari segi cerita game. Namun dari kualitas grafik, sama-sama baik. Battlefield 4 juga sudah lama dalam masa preorder ketimbang Call of Duty Ghost, jadi pesan saja sekarang kesitu resminya.

5. GTA V Grand Theft Auto 5

Nah ini dia game yang tak pernah tidak laris, Grand Theft Auto merupakan seri game dimana anda dapat sebebas mungkin menggerakan karakter anda disuatu kota besar. Anda diberikan beberapa misi dan pastinya menantang dan membuat pengalaman bermain lebih mengasikkan. Dikabarkan bahwa GTA V ini merupakan game dengan biaya pembuatan yang termasuk kategori sangat mahal. Tentu saja mahal, pekerjanya saja banyak dan pernak-pernik game juga banyak. What is Sakabato ? A sakabato (reverse-edged sword) is a fictional type of Japanese sword. On the normal katana, the outward curved side of the blade is sharpened, while the inward curved side of the blade is blunt. In contrast, the sakabato is made so that the cutting edge is on the side that curves inward. Although functional sakabato are currently being produced for purchase by collectors and fans, there is no record of them ever having been used historically in Japan. There is also no school of swordsmanship existing that employs them. However, historical use of "reverse-blade" weapons is evident from samples held at the Deoksu Royal Palace Museum in Korea. Because Japan at one time invaded Korea, the possibility remains open that a sakabato was developed based on Korean examples. However, as aforementioned, no historical record nor archaeological evidence currently exists to support such a theory. Some Tanto (Knives) have been found that have "reversed blades". These are labeled kubikiri, sometimes translated as "head cutter" or "doctor's knife". The sakabato is the main weapon of popular manga character Himura Kenshin in the manga Rurouni Kenshin, and as such is typically depicted as a 'pacifist' weapon by those willing to kill only as a last resort. Samurai Katana The Samurai Katana is the strongest and best performing Japanese style blade ever offered at this price. The use of Swedish powdered steel, used in the construction of these shinogi zukuri katana, results in outstanding quality and performance. Strength, edge holding, and beauty have all been significantly enhanced by the use of this steel along with the complex folding process. The thicker, robust blade with ample niku ("meat") evidences a gunome style hamon and a dramatic ayasugi-hada with mokume and masame. The tsuba is steel and engraved with a Samurai drawing his sword. The fuchi and kashira also feature Samurai drawing and cutting engraved in them. The forging process for this sword can be seen on our website. Each of these blades is individually hand forged and folded, heat treated, and mounted. Even with these design parameters each sword is unique. Performance testing has shown them to be strong cutting blades with a good resistance to deflection. James cut cleanly through a 12 mat roll at the Bugei Open House with the Samurai style blade. The nakago are 10 inches with two mekugi. This provides for strength and safety while cutting. These swords are also available with 11 inch up to 15 inch tsuka . The saya and the silk tsuka ito are black. General Blade Specifications (remember each sword is hand forged so there is always minor variation): Motohaba is 1 1/4 inch, Sakihaba is 1 inch, Torisori is 7/8 inch, Hamon is in Gyaku Choji style, and the kissaki is 1 3/4 inches.
